War of the Worlds
Orson Welles' famous radio version of H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds. Performed live, with live sound effects and music.
In partnership with The Planetary Society, the evening also features a half-hour multi-media presentation from Mat Kaplan, host of public radio's Planetary Radio, who will present an update with the very latest from Mars' new "rover," Curiosity!
Mat knows how fortunate he is to be the host and producer of Planetary Radio. He was just 17 when he got his first job in broadcasting, yet it wasn't until the premiere of the Planetary Society's weekly broadcast and podcast series, that he was able to combine his love of space exploration with the fun and excitement of being on the air.
A Planetary Society staff member for over twelve years, he is thrilled to work for Planetary Society CEO Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Mat completed a 27-year career as a media administrator at CSU Long Beach last November. His extensive background in journalism has ranged from public radio reporter covering the political conventions to movie reviewer for an international magazine. One or two people may even remember him as a correspondent for a couple of pioneering national TV series about computers.
This longtime Long Beach, California resident has two adult daughters raised to be citizens of the solar system. Both are Long Beach Shakespeare Company alums!
