Double Feature: The Sub-Basement & The Ghost Party
Double Feature: The Sub-Basement & The Ghost Party
Synopses: In The Sub-Basement, Desperate and annoyed Arnie plans to take his own life and that of his wife, Irma. Arnie leads his scared wife, endlessly questioning him, down deep into the sub-basement of the department store where he works. Tired of her endless nagging, Arnie brings a reluctant Irma deeper and deeper inside the tunnels hiding below the city building. There they find some suspicious and spooky sights and discover the body of one of Arnie's coworkers, torn limb from limb. They try to escape and find themselves locked underground, the couple is chased by an ancient, blind, and terrifying lizard - a dinosaur. Fleeing, Arnie is injured, and his wife saves him and tries to help figure out what the hell is going on in this basement.
In The Ghost Party, Engaged couple Jimmy and Ellen begrudgingly walk to one of Mrs. Hinkle's famous parties. She is a powerful woman who owns stock in everything in town. This is a party that if you are invited to, you simply have to go especially for Jimmy who wants to keep his job and steady paycheck. Jimmy fills Ellen in on all of the tricks and gossip about the party hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Hinkle, who go all out for their events. Ellen doesn’t know if she wants to go in. But they have no choice. Hopefully the party won’t be too crazy. Little do they know, the party will take a spooky and terrifying turn.
The Argument: When we feel unappreciated and miserable, sometimes we make life altering choices because we have no choice. But when you are pinned in a corner you have to fight whatever terror that lies in the dark and do what is right. Redemption is always possible even in the direst of moments. In the search for answers of an afterlife, humanity has been relentless in their pursuit of answers and tricks about what is just behind the veil. How much are you willing to sacrifice to not having to die like all mortals do? What is the price you pay to live another day? Could you leave your own spouse and life to get the chance to live?
