Synopses: In Shav versus Whitmore, can one man re-write Shakespeare? One room, two men, and a battle of pride, relevance, and wit. In The Ghosts of the Globe Theatre, if you had five more minutes to love, hate, hold, and cry with your
friends and family, what would you say to them? We are told the true story of how the Globe Theatre burnt down. Back when ghost lights weren’t a thing, ghosts had to perform their plays side by side with the players. On June 29th 1613, the performance of Henry the 8th was haunted. Not only by ghosts but also by horrible actors. When the players perform horribly and hog the audience, there is nothing the ghosts can do but feel angry.
The Argument: Within the season’s theme, the festival highlights how legends are born—not only from the past, but from the artists who shape our future. Every great play, every timeless character, once had a first performance. By championing new work, we honor the legacy of theatre itself: a living, evolving art form where today’s creations become tomorrow’s unforgettable stories.
